Be it a goodie or online fonts, free things are always attractive. This doesn’t mean that free of cost stuff is the right choice. But many online fonts are there that, besides being costless and open source, are beautiful and appealing as well. Still, they aren’t always the best selection for numerous reasons, when it comes to corporate websites or logo designs. Some of them are as follows:
- Limited character sets:
In most cases, these free fonts lack several special & extended characters offered by (almost all) commercially available fonts.
- Not for professional use:
Most of the times free fonts come with usage restrictions – personal usage only, not commercial use.Certainly, some people may ignore those constraints and use these fonts on their website or to design a corporate logo, just like some people steal or skimp on tips at restaurants or make illegal lane changes. But that is something illegitimate.
- Lower quality:
Free fonts, possibly are hard to be well-drawn beautifully, unlike paid fonts because of the lower quality that free fonts possess. This doesn’t mean that the free font authors are unable to deliver good and exceptional work, but all in all, the freebies often don’t live up in overall quality, a logo design font requires.
- Numbered formats:
Free fonts are in limited formats. The majority of them on the Internet are available in Windows TrueType format. They can’t be found in Win/Mac PostScript or Mac TrueType or OpenType formats – which is important to some folks. Conversions are not possible,at all times.
- Free may not truly be free:
Unluckily not all download sites are cautious about making certain that the fonts they provide for download are actually free fonts. Professional fonts are often made available without indicating that they are not free of cost. Some people knowingly place these fonts online, sometimes thinking that if they purchased the font they are allowed to do whatever they want to, with it.
Note: Before getting your website or logo designed by a logo design company, make sure they are not using free fonts.
